Cressida One - eBook Cover

Are you ready to dive into Cressida's world of cute boys and magical plants? While we await the release of the first book in the long-awaited Cressida Trilogy, let's talk about book cover design!

When I thought about what I wanted the first book cover to look like, I drew inspiration from elements in the story - the wall surrounding Glass City and the icy charm of the city itself. In book one, Cressida adventures to Glass City in search of answers to questions from her past. She is struck by the awe-inspiring wintry landscape, so different from her home and everything she's known growing up in Larkin's Hollow.

All images used on the ebook cover are available for commercial use and I do all of my design work in Procreate for iPad. First, I layered a cracked-ice background with a transparent gradient. Then, I added the wall, adjusting the colours to make the blues and oranges pop; they are natural opposites and will always work well together.

For the main title, I purchased the Roman's Story font, the version for use in ebooks. I loved the glyphs and thought they captured the spirit of Cressida's world. The remaining fonts are standard ones which come with Procreate.

After all of that, I ran my book cover by my sister, Leanne, who is a graphic designer. She immediately stated that the title didn't stand out enough so I added the medium blue bar behind it. The colour for that was taken from the icy background, a built-in match for the rest of the cover! Finally, I bloomed the lettering slightly, a function easily available in Procreate.
